Coach Training

As you may have read in Archery UK, the Assistant Coach grade has been replaced by the Level 1 grade of Coach.  The Grand Western Coaching Group, is looking to start running some Level 1 courses later this year.  The initial one will probably be at Redruth in the autumn, but they are also planning others in Bristol and Plymouth.

The cost of training for an individual will be £95.00 plus their travelling expenses, though Somerset County will subsidise part of this on application to the county secretary.  It will take about 30 hours tuition plus time for supported practise, as unlike the old Assistant Coach training, part of the work is teaching beginners.  This will mean that your club, or one nearby will have to be running a beginners course during the training period.  Trainees will be observed putting their training into practice to ensure they can work safely and well.  In addition candidates will have a Mentor, who will either be an existing coach, or an experienced archer, to act as a 'buddy'.  The Mentor will be agreed with the candidate and will receive training on what will be expected of the role.

If anyone is interested in training to become a Level 1 Coach so that you can help teach others to learn the sport that you enjoy, then please let your club secretary know.
