It was decided at the GWAS meeting in October that the county team size will be returned to the size it was in 2002. The team will therefore consist of: 14 Yorks (7 recurve, 5 compound, 2 longbow) and 10 Herefords (5 recurve, 3 compound, 2 longbow). Each team will drop 1 recurve, 1 compound and 1 longbow score (from either the York or Hereford) at the end of the day to decide the regional prize winner.

The Inter-Counties were held on the 21st September, and Somerset again figured strongly in the results. This years competition was a two-horse race between Somerset and Dorset & Wilts, with the other two counties going home without a single trophy. SCAA and DWAA shared the individual trophies, with Tim Jarvis and Vikki Gallop winning the Mens Compound and Ladies Recurve individual titles for Somerset, while Andrew Callaway and Sue Ryall won the Mens Recurve and Ladies Compound for DWAA. All of the recurve team prizes went to Somerset (ladies recurve team of 3, mens recurve team of 5, and mixed recurve team of 8), thanks to strong performances from our recurve archers. The compound team trophy and the longbow team trophy both went to DWAA. The final trophy to be presented is always the overall team prize, and the audience was holding its breath as Janet read out the results in reverse order. Unlike the last two years, Somerset's name was not left to last, as DWAA had taken the title ahead of Somerset by a mere 29 points in a total of over 17000!

Two Somerset archers recently achieved a second place at the National Target Championships at Lilleshall on the 9th & 10th August. The first day saw near perfect archery conditions on one of the warmest weekends of the year, but the second day was quite the opposite with a massive thunderstorm rolling around the archery field. After a lightning strike on the sub-station at one end of the field after 4 dozen arrows had been shot, the organisers decided to call the tournament off, and the results were declared after 16 dozen.
Vicki Gallop of Bowmen of Hatch finished second in the Ladies Recurve behind Naomi Folkard of WMAS. Vicki also won the Mansell Edwards trophy for the highest score at 80yds over both days.
Tim Jarvis of Bath Archers finished second in the Gents Compound just behind Alan Hayden of DWAA. Tim actually led after the first day, but was caught by Alan on day two during the terrible weather on Sunday.

Puriton Gold's recurve archers came out on top in a closely fought indoor championships at the weekend. They scooped first place in both the ladies and gents recurve, and also in the recurve team. Bath Archers were dominant in the longbow and gents compound, with Danesfield and Ballands taking home handfuls of medals and certificates in the junior and barebow categories respectively.
The day ran smoothly thanks to Chris Hassall and his hard-working team, with Alex Kerby doing sterling work in adjudicating over all three sessions.
